Review on Pentax K 30 Weather Sealed Black Body by Andrea Allen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Unbelievable value, images, menu system

I have sold my Nikon D40 and made a few decisions. I took a close look at the Nikon D5100, D7000 and Canon T4i. I figured I'd wait until Nikon unveiled the inevitable D5200 to make a decision, but after weighing all the options and considering the phenomenal value of the K30, I bought it. (white body with standard 18-55 lens - sexy) I'm new to Pentax and glad I made the switch. I have nothing against Nikon or Canon, but apart from great shots, Pentax has something unique. I prefer the Nikon and Canon menu system - it's easier for me to navigate. (Although deleting photos on Nikon remains easier - hitting the "delete" button does everything.) Waiting for Sigma to release their new 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM in Pentax mount - then everything will be perfect . You already have this for Nikon/Canon - great reviews. Not waterproof (Sigma lens) but that was never a factor with the K30. (Although it's nice to have.) I wanted a great camera with a good all round lens and that's it. This allows me to take great photos (even with the stock 18-55 lens) and easily take on more challenging shots when I feel I need to. People shoot videos with this and other SLR cameras. My answer is to buy a camcorder. Since the advent of video in SLR cameras, it has become something of a gimmick. SLR cameras are not suitable for video, camcorders are not suitable for photos. I needed great shots - the K30 meets those needs. Like the grip, the ergonomics, the image quality, the build quality and the price compared to the competition. Highly recommend if you are new to the DSLR world or like me upgrading from a D40 or similar.
