I like to use tortoise shell pins to style my hair back and up in a messy bun. Even if they're a little visible, I think they look better than the old-style rubber band or the banana clip. The good ones glide easily but have enough grip to stay in place, they aren't too smooth and have a slight camber, and they have tips that don't cut the scalp - that's a 9 out of 10 Scale. They work even better when my hair is still damp when I curl it. Being mostly plastic the price seems a little high to me but they are hard to find. A similar shorter bobby pin in the picture is the MagicGrip bobby pins (10 pack for $7.58, works really well too) and Frechies Ultra Flocked Extra Soft French Twist bobby pins (20 pack for $13.95, good for those stray ends ). I will buy all three again (if I can't find a better price!).
