Just before my husband and I first moved in, he had an apartment where I stayed a day or two a week (usually the weekend before moving back to my apartment across town) . When he moved out and we got an apartment of his own, he laughed because all that was left of his deposit was that my curlers had burned part of his counter. Turning my curling iron on to avoid bail issues works great. It also works great when traveling as I can confidently slide my curling iron in and toss it in my suitcase while it's still hot. I used to have to try to cool it down a bit before wrapping it in clothes I thought wouldn't melt or burn. I wish the cord held up better. I simply wrap the cord around the end of the curling iron and then plug the connector into the housing. I had a non-silicone version that didn't protect the counter but could hold a hot iron, with a cord cover that was more convenient for cord maintenance.
