Review on Sony XB950B1 Extra Bass Wireless Headphones with App Control in Blue by Gavin Dunne

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Prone to breakage and out of warranty

Conclusion of my review: Don't invest $200 in a plastic part that will shatter at the slightest touch of pressure - especially since it is NOT covered under warranty. If you're looking for sound quality comments, skip to the bottom of this review. The weak point of these headphones are the 4 arms that connect each earbud to the headband. Mine broke after 4 weeks. One day I packed them in a tight backpack and cycled home. When I pulled them out, one of those arms was broken. I don't understand why a company would make an expensive product out of fragile plastic. Cell phones, cars, and Macbooks are all made of aluminum, and none of them have a thin, elongated part that can break, especially one that, by definition, needs to be stretched/pulled apart in order to fit those headphones on your head. It's like making a $200 baseball bat or a saucepan but making the handle out of flimsy plastic. Why? Worst of all, when you call Sony's warranty service they tell you that wear and tear isn't covered for this model. You will have to pay for the headphones to be shipped, have them repaired and pay for shipping them back to you. But there's a loophole - returning them to Revain for free, and there's nothing Sony can do about it. Sound quality: A-/B+. Much better than the standard Apple earbuds on the low-end, slightly better on the high-end. He didn't blow off his pants. The bass effect is a marketing gimmick, you'll never use it because it's ridiculous (it feels like it's hurting my hearing). In normal mode, and so enough bass. Convenience: Bluetooth is the best thing about these headphones. Battery life is decent (4 hours). Headphones will make your ears sweat unless you're in a room that's 68 degrees or colder (e.g. if you go outside with them, you'll need to wipe them down every 5 minutes). It's both a plus and a minus - perfect for noisy offices as your ear's full isolation blocks outside noise. Terrible for working out as completely sealing your ear from the outside air means there is no ventilation.
