Don't Buy: Acer doesn't endorse their products

I bought this laptop a few months ago and it was great except for one issue: the connector that connects the AC adapter to the computer is great too loose. It doesn't stay connected. With the slightest movement, it will only protrude about a millimeter from the port, at which point it will beep and stop charging. It took me a few days to figure out why the laptop kept beeping and a few weeks to realize the seriousness of the problem. At first I just thought I wasn't inserting the connector firmly enough, but I soon found out it was a defect in the port. I googled and saw that others had similar experiences with a loose port, so I contacted Acer and chatted with a rep. They let me try different things none of which worked and I contacted them a second time to chat with a different representative. This time they sent me a new power cord, but that didn't solve the problem either - the cord is fine, the connector on the laptop doesn't hold it securely. Since some posts on the web have mentioned that ordering a universal power cord from Revain is a better fit, I decided to try this option as I figured the $15 would be worth it if I didn't have more time for this one problem would have to spend. Unfortunately, that didn't work either and the problem got worse. Now the computer only charges when I find the "best spot" by holding the connector and moving it around until the charging icon appears, then holding it in that position while leaning something against it, which doesn't always work. I contacted Acer a third time and was told that I would need to send the laptop in for repairs at my expense and that the turnaround time is 15-20 days. I asked if they could replace the product instead, given the time I had already spent grappling with this and the documented history of chatting with Acer representatives about the same issue. They refused and also threatened that if the damage turned out to be caused by my actions, the repairs would not be reimbursed. I'm an honest man, I didn't damage the port. I wish I had realized the seriousness of the issue sooner, but I am very disappointed that Acer is refusing to support their product. As I told Acer, I'm a high school teacher currently teaching remotely a few days a week, and I just can't be without a computer for almost a month. I'll have to play around with this cable and hope it doesn't stop charging the computer until I buy another laptop. It is extremely disappointing that during the Covid pandemic the company has decided not to replace a defective teacher product. I will never buy this brand again.
