Review on πŸš€ Unleash Optimal Performance with MOOG 354 U-Joint: A Must-Have Auto Part for Superior Drivetrain Functionality by Kyle Robinson

No precision manufacturing!

I thought the Moog was a quality part. Ordered these for my 97 F150 rwd 4.6, packaging and delivery was excellent. Parts looked "good". When I started the installation, after removing the old Motorcraft (18 years old, 200,000+ miles) I found it extremely difficult to press them onto both the driveshaft and the two yokes. I was able to fit them into the driveshaft with a very snug fit for the snap rings. But when pressing on the front or rear fork, there just wasn't enough room for the C-ring (on one side). I took them off and turned them off (squeezed!) until finally I was satisfied, if not thrilled. The next morning, during a test drive, one of the rings on the back collar came off. Luckily I felt the vibration and stopped. After arranging a trip, I took the AutoZone gimbal, my driveshaft, and took it to the shop for installation. It fits like a glove (difficult, but there's room for that ring). I checked another Moog gimbal and indeed the C-ring was loose. It was also swapped and there was no problem (with supposedly inferior AZ crossbreeds)! I measured the original Motorcraft Ujoint against the Moog Ujoint. Surprise, they are slightly larger (measured with a micrometer)! No wonder I had so many difficulties. I also note that the parts are stamped "352", I ordered 354! I've been trying to figure out what 352 is, but to no avail. Since then I've researched and discovered that Federal Mogul had acquired Moog and started replacing Moog parts with their own using the Moog brand name. While not a mechanic, I am a serious auto mechanic and have made many UJoint replacement parts over the years. I will no longer buy Moog parts and will no longer recommend high quality Moog parts.
