Review on πŸ’¨ High-Speed Ubiquiti Networks Unifi AC Mesh 1167Mbit/s PoE White: Boost Your Network with Power over Ethernet by Shane Solorzano

Amazing coverage but hard to get mesh wireless to work

I have this setup in a mesh configuration with a UniFi UAP AC-PRO. At first it's more than I thought. The device itself is about the size of a long TV remote, and with the antennas added, the overall length is about 18 inches. So when you use a POE injector you are relying on another peripheral to work with it. In other words, it's really meant for outdoor/office/industrial use, don't expect it to blend seamlessly with your living room decor. It's a bit tricky to set up if you want to use it as a wireless network. The included instructions don't really go into detail on this configuration, and the instructions on the UniFi website also omit a few important steps. If you don't get it right, the device will also remain in "disabled" mode with no obvious way to start over. It took me a while to figure out that if you have to start over, you have to do a factory reset and then "forget" the device in the UniFi Controller software. Anyway, the steps to get the wireless network working (at least for me) is to connect it to your router first so it can get an IP address, wait for it in the UniFi controller appears and make any necessary settings on the controller, run the deployment setup, unplug it from your router, reboot again, and then plug it in where you want it. It took me over 2 hours to finally understand this step sequence. Now the good part. Once it's up and running you'll quickly forget how frustrating it was because WOW it made a huge difference in my Wi-Fi coverage. The part of the house where I could barely cover and stream was next to impossible, now I have such a strong signal that everything happens almost instantly and I can watch 4k videos with no buffering or lag. Even better, this strong signal now covers a large portion of my 1/2 acre garden. All in all a great device once you figure out how to set it up.
