Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not everything is so bad, the average purchase in quality.

Review Unit 20VE00FLRU (Intel Core i5 1135G7, 15.6", 1920 x 1080, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB Solid State Drive, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, No Operating System). The laptop gives off a rather unsettling vibe in general. In comparison to the latest iterations of the competition, this has no significant benefits except from the low cost of iron. However, there are several examples of incompetence that may be addressed without a corresponding increase in cost.

Pros
  • Plus, it has a great cost-effectiveness ratio. 51 grand for i5 1135G7, 8 GB, 512 GB + quality case assembly; nothing bends, nothing creaks.
Cons
  • Typing device. The up and down arrows are insufficiently large. When NumLock is deactivated, only the NumPad digits (Home, End, PgUp, PgDn) function as multimedia controls (Play, Stop, Forward, Back). It's not practical for sitting in an office all day. No sleepy-time shortcuts can be found. When plugging in cables, you'll need to hold the laptop firmly from behind due to the snug fit of the USB inputs. A music-cinema experience is not possible due to the speakers' lack of depth. Ten years ago, that noise was familiar to me from laptops. Locking display hinges. If you want to adjust the viewing angle of your laptop when it's already open, you'll need to hold the bottom. The colors on the screen look off, and the saturation is way too high. Intel's integrated graphics software subsequently included a fix, but not a perfect one. I took a laptop running DOS and it was a nightmare. To begin, the SSD wasn't recognized by Windows during setup, thus a driver had to be manually downloaded. When I swapped out the old laptop's HDD for an SSD, the issue went away. Second, after Windows was installed, neither the system nor Lenovo's proprietary software discovered the appropriate drivers. Each one required a manual download and set-up on my part.
