As a new owner of a Blu-ray burner to be used solely for data archiving, I was looking for better types of media. Many sources claim that the Verbatim discs available here are the right choice: Verbatim BD-R 25GB 6X Signature Surface - 25 Pack on Spindle 97457 I bought them first, tried them and loved them. them to try. However, it is not easy to understand the large number of reviews. Here are all the facts about my setup (I think all these facts are important when trying to figure out if the problem is hardware, media, or user error): My media was purchased on May 27th, 2017 and arrived on May 5th .29/17. The combustible side is grey/gold. The media ID on it is OTCBDR-002-000. This is the same as the Plexdisc available here: PlexDisc 633-214 25GB 6x Blu-ray White Inkjet Printable Single Layer Recordable Disc BD-R, 50 Disc Spindle, although they have an inkjet front. Its non-combustible surface is golden gray with a slightly matt finish. A look at the Blu-ray Disc Association Licensing Office's website shows that they are licensed by Amethystum Storage Technology Co., Ltd. getting produced. Looks like a Chinese company? HDL hard drives. My burner is an LG WH16NS40 which I bought earlier this month. This is the latest firmware 1.02 as my recording media is NS50 (although the model number doesn't reflect this). My burning software is the excellent freeware Imgburn v2.5.8.0. If you do a media search on the Myce ID forums, you'll find that some people are reporting that it doesn't burn very well at nominal 6x. However, since I received the Optical Quantum discs, I have recorded and reviewed 9 discs with no problems. I intend to come back soon and do a custom data check to make sure it's taking longer to burn. I only used 6x speed as that's what they are designed for. It takes more than 16 minutes to burn 25GB. I then use ImgBurn check after each burn, which takes another 14 minutes. So far I haven't had any errors. ImgBurn's "validation" technique compares the written data to the original data, so I trust it. (To be completely transparent, the author of the software has stated that if this test passes, then the data on that drive is the same and readable at that point - the media could certainly be corrupt). Revain has a great return policy, I didn't hesitate to try them and so far I'm quite satisfied.
