I needed this cable to capture old video from a Sony Hi-8 camcorder. This thing saved the day! I connected it to the camera, then to an Apple Firewire dongle for Thunderbolt (Series 2), then an Apple Thunderbolt (Series 2) dongle for Thunderbolt (Series 3, USB-C) to my Windows 10 laptop with Thunderbolt /USB. -C connector. I couldn't believe it actually worked! No problem. I spent way more on Apple Keys than this cable. If you have ports or keys to connect to, data will be transferred. In any case, be careful when checking which Firewire ports you have. There are 4-pin, 6-pin, and 9-pin versions of Firewire - gotta love "Standards".
