I was looking for a usb remote just for volume control on a win 10 pro htpc base computer in my office. I have music, weather, or sports playing in the background while I work on my desktop computer about 10 feet away. I only needed some basic controls. After reading many reviews of different devices in different stores, the Rii I25 caught my eye. It arrived on Sunday as scheduled and was ready to go for my gear/technical "boot camp". I connected the IR receiver/USB transceiver, set the remote's power switch to the "on" position (didn't even charge it until I finished my initial testing), Win 10 gave it a few beeps approval, and off we went. He has a nice weight and balance in his hands. The texture corresponds to its function. I started with a range/accuracy test. I stood about 15 feet across the room, no problem. Aside from some cursor drift, I was able to open/close and navigate normally whether from 15 feet or reclined in my office chair from 3 feet. Mouse/cursor response and calibration feels like there's a long metal rod attached to the remote's pivoting remote control, and when you hit the edges of the screen the alignment "bends" like a real mouse when you hold down this "over" edge. Quick learning curve, a little practice and I dialed the number. Also, for now, there is no noticeable interference with my other 2.4GHz technologies active in the area. Again, I was only looking for a volume control, so the keyboard is a plus. I spent a few hours just using the Rii as a mouse and keyboard, surfing, reading/exploring, opening files, tweaking network configurations, and for all intents and purposes it got the job done. Not as smooth as my normal setup, but fairly effective for remote work. After the first 45 minutes of testing and learning, I finally connected it to the included USB/Micro USB cable to charge it. It didn't take too long to fully charge as it obviously had quite a few mAh to start with. Today (Monday) at 6pm PT (6pm) it has been unavailable for 25 hours and is still working fine. Of course, I can't speak to overall battery life or endurance just yet. The backlight would be nice, but at least for me it's not a problem. The included manual covers the basics, including changing the DPI and calibrating the remote, though it's not in AP College English, and the button images are hard to make out. So my first assessment is this. So far, so good. Again, endurance and other long-term characteristics remain to be seen. After a bit of practice with movements, the keyboard, and the rotation that disables the mouse, I got pretty good at it. For $20 I'm thrilled with this thing. App: May 5, 2021 Still working great. I use it fairly regularly for HTPC and other functions several days a week and I haven't charged it since February!
