I got this lens in 2005 as part of my D70 kit. This is a very good kit lens and a great learning lens. This lens takes every photographer far ahead. Just remember that a flash is needed in low light. I am discussing replacing this lens with a 17-35mm f2.8. Not sure if 1-2 stops will do me much good. This is my reliable and genuine lens. I only took two lenses with me to Hawaii, this one and my 70-300mm (non-VR version). That's all I needed. Both lenses coped well with the ride. For outdoor shots, 18-70 is best. In the tightest of spaces with a pop-up flash, this lens delivers great shots. I used this lens for an indoor corporate event, however an external flash was required. I have an SB-600 and this lens gives the flash the information it needs to set the flash intensity correctly.
