These emergency lights are good for what they are. There are 3 LED lights that light up in a horizontal position, or if you prefer there are 2 LEDs that can light up vertically (on top of the device). Depending on where you install the device depends on how you want the light to shine. These devices do not light up from two points at the same time, so you have to choose what works best for your situation. Just to be clear, these are not night lights. There is a small red LED that will light up to let you know the device is charging and ready to use if the power goes out. But the red LED is not bright enough for night lighting. I installed it at the bottom of the stairs so no one would trip when walking down the stairs in the dark. One in the main hall where the bedrooms are and another I installed in the garage that plugs into the overhead outlet and points to my fuse panel so I can work on the panel when I set up my generator. weeks due to a severe storm. The outage happened in the evening so it was the perfect test for these lights. When the lights went out, these devices started up automatically and continued to work for the full 3.5 hours without any problems. The lights aren't blindingly bright, but they are enough to illuminate any room they can be placed in. Another small issue is that these lights are not end-user serviceable, so I don't think you can change the unit's battery. I can see that there are 4 small Phillips screws on the back of the device that you can use to disassemble the device. I haven't done it yet, but I don't think you can change the battery. I can't tell how long they stay lit once the power is turned back on so your mileage may vary! I love these lights so much. that I bought a second home shirt and a home shirt for my daughter.
