mainly bought it to measure water temperature, although I can use it with food. I liked that the packaging and product looked like some effort was put into it. I've had cheaper timers and what not and you have to buy a few to get the right one and they show up and it seems like the device isn't being looked after. Packaging was good, came with an extra battery and it came right out of the box, instructions were simple and clear etc. It's not overly expensive and shouldn't be, although I was looking for a $10 basic battery that would work, but don't drop it. I really wanted a collapsible one so I wouldn't break it and store it more conveniently. I looked through the ones on Amazon and settled on this one and I'm happy with my choice. will work great for my main purposes. Factory calibration is close, I think mine might be off a few degrees. pretty close with a degree +/- deflection and I'm measuring at low level with water, maybe that's not the main purpose of the device. overall satisfied with my purchase. I was looking for something simple and affordable that would suit my needs, but would like to find something with a level of quality to stand up to simple use and wear and tear. I have confidence in the device for my limited use. Happy with the purchase it was the closest I could see to what I was looking for. I wanted to stay around $10 which is most likely something better for more money on the lower end, although $10 was like the cheapest and @ around $13 I wasn't too far from the cheapest model.
