The knife has 3 sides so you can remove 3 different types of oil - 1 side doesn't work. The other 2 sides work. The side with the big holes doesn't work - it's supposed to make the butter look like it's been grated - if you run your knife through the butter instead of going through the hole, you'll end up with a large sheet of butter and something piling up on the back Butter comes through the hole. It's still a sturdy knife that does the job, but if you're buying one to make oil flow out of holes, don't buy it because it won't.
