I was worried because of the color I ordered (teal) that they wouldn't darken my room enough compared to the darker colors (brown, black), but they definitely do! Way better than I expected! Wow, it is amazing how much darker my room is. I can now sleep late without waking up to blinding light in my eyes, my bedroom is somehow the hottest/coldest room in the house, but with these curtains blocking out the sun I find it much cooler in here now. I added some teal sheer curtains behind these blackouts to add more layers, make it prettier, but most importantly, to be able to open my windows for light (when I start to feel too closed in or just simply want more light in my room). I attached the sheer curtains onto a spring rod so it sits just inside the window while the blackouts are attached to the outside of the window. Definitely no need for tie backs with these type of curtains either, because they stay in place when you slide them back, but if you just like that look it would work with tie backs also. The fabric of these blackout curtains also surprised me, they were very soft & smooth vs. the rough, tarp type of blackouts I've felt in the past. I can't say enough good things about them! Def recommend them!
