I installed the pen on a Windows 7 machine for English use. I have also attached some pictures to clarify the review below. ***** PRO: It works! As advertised. In all the programs I've tried. And when I open the supplied software, text-to-speech also works, no matter which program I scan the text into. The pen size is comfortable and resembles a "regular marker" (bold). QUICKLY. I can scan at the usual speed without any problems! I didn't measure exactly, but the USB cable is about 4.5 feet long, which is good enough for my situation. If it is set to "space", " is used between lines, and a hyphen is used at the end of the last line scanned, so the first word on the next line is the rest of the word on the last line, the hyphen is removed, no space is inserted, and you get the full word For example, if you scan: I went to the store today and saw milk you received I went to the store today and saw milk I tried it on seven different ways of books and everything worked fine (exception noted below) Required more eagle eye from your side with very small text to ensure you are scanning the correct line, but it also works great with large text commonly found on book covers .IF the book cover isn't colorful. Then it won't fit.The pen seems to require as much closer to black text on a white background as possible I ma g the "function key" on the front panel which allows me to quickly and easily enter/return to the next next line in my document file without touching the button. keyboard.***** CON: Superscripts are displayed as carets, for example if a lowercase #2 marks a link, it will be displayed as ^ instead. As mentioned above, the pen requires black text on a white background. or something very close. Black text on a gray background just doesn't work. One of my textbooks has exercises printed in black text on a gray highlighted background. Handle. Regardless of my speed or stability. I will NOT scan this text except with a little gibberish. The same applies to black text on a light brown background. Background. However, I tried white text on a dark blue background and it worked. You need a primary contrasting color between the text and the background. Nothing else will work. He has a learning curve in figuring out how to hold a pen properly. My first attempts at a paperback resulted in not pressing the little button that was meant to be held down while scanning, and that's where the "gibberish" comes in. You must have a fairly straight and stable arm that maintains the same pressure across the line, which is more difficult when the book isn't on a flat and stable surface or when there are a lot of "curves" around the edges. However, I sit in a lounge chair with a book on my lap, play with a pen, and get pretty good results after just a few minutes of use. Again, there's a learning curve, but it's not the main one. For example, I quickly learned to place a hardcover book under the paperback I'm scanning to improve results by increasing stability. I also learned that both "dots" (top/bottom) do NOT have to be pressed against the page. ONLY part of the button. I get much better results holding the pen at an angle where the button is pressed but the opposite side (above the line) isn't touching the paper (you need a pen in hand to really understand this concept ). In general . I'm glad I bought the C-Pen. Of course, there's a learning curve that's not perfect, but as a graduate student and avid reader who enjoys taking notes, I'm very happy to have this pen. DISCLAIMER: This review was posted on the day I received the pen. So I don't know anything about longevity or longevity yet.
