Review on πŸ–₯️ AsRock Rack X470D4U Micro ATX Server Motherboard: AM4 Ryzen & Ryzen 7nm PGA1331 AMD X470 by Scott Hadlock

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great idea, poor execution

I would give this one star but AsRock quickly got support. It was intended to update an outdated system. Problems: 1. My main problem with the motherboard is that it doesn't always see or boot multiple flash drives for unraid. The first stick was my existing unraid install, the other was a fresh install. The only way to boot it into Unraid is with a hard reset (power cycle). Faulty or bad BIOS firmware, I returned this board.2. This motherboard is not subject to the restricted AMD socket range and is oriented at a 90Β° angle from normal. So a decent heatsink like Noctua's 3HE NH-D9L (a) isn't designed to push air from front to back (b) and protrudes beyond the first DDR4.3 slot. Only has an internal USB3. This is very strange as the x470 chipset has multiple USB 2.0 connection options. I am using an internal USB 2.0 port adapter to mount an unraid flash drive to .4. Why microATX? $250 isn't about cost savings. If full ATX were chosen, the first PCIE slot could be moved down 1 slot, which would give enough room for RAM on the top of the board and give the AM4 socket the necessary clearance, even for Noctua's compact 3U cooler is required. AMD's factory heatsink doesn't work on the board with one of the channel A slots with RAM.AsRock if you read. Please consider the above and keep making motherboards with IPMI for non-server processors. Many of us want to run consumer technology at home and in a small office.
