Review on IRISPen Express 6 Pen Scanner by Lild Zimmerly

Good. So at first I thought they were junk. One word scanned, everything else gibberish. I sent two back in case they were defective. I've contacted my usual support team, who after an important tip (still a bit later) don't seem to be completely aware of the usage issues affecting this product. Learn from experience, here they are: 1. LIGHT, LIGHT, LIGHT! Did I say light? What about the light that comes through a window or shines from your lamp and weakens the optical reader that is supposed to scan? So when the table lamp is on, the gibberish comes out, the table lamp is off, it works almost perfectly? I actually use a large card to protect the area of the page I'm scanning from the light as I like bright light when reading. Try it. And I'm wondering if the tech support guys really don't know that the light is interfering with the scanner? 2. Some pages just don't get crawled, period. Maybe it's the colour, maybe it's the font, who knows, but a book with yellowish pages just might not work.3. You need to calibrate frequently and also delete the calibration files beforehand (on a Mac under Users/Name/Library/Applications/Iris Pen). Make sure you calibrate on the side you want to scan. And start a new calibration next time. It's okay, a few seconds. This is the only helpful advice I received from the support team.4. Make sure you select the "Fine Print" option when scanning small print (yes!).5. The button that moves the cursor to a new paragraph is delayed a few seconds - it works, but only longer. I don't know why they don't give you the option to go back to the settings: that would be really handy as you often have to correct some letters.6. Be sure to scan slightly to the left of the beginning of the text or you'll keep missing the first letter(s). I'm thinking about it now. I had very little of it so plan on updating the review. Otherwise, this is the best accessory especially for students/students who are constantly taking notes. PLEASE IMPROVE TECHNOLOGY!
