Takes practice but is worth it

I ruined my grinding wheel to the right of the bit with too much wax. I was able to save it by burning off the wax with a candle lighter. Anyhow, the instructions are clear and to the point, including detailed information on regrinding the wheels and sharpening tips (although not too much detail on the amount of wax/lapping paste). Anyway, when I contacted the support team, I got a call back directly from the owner! He explained how much wax to use - just tap it lightly on the surface once before sharpening. Sharpening itself turns the hardest steels into a razor blade in seconds. I use 1 pass for kitchen and 420HC knives, 2 passes for S30v and 3 passes for s90v. As with a sharpening tool, you must be careful not to grind down the tip. About the time the tip is halfway to the surface, deftly pull it toward you/off the wheel. As instructed in the instructions, start with the knives in your junk drawer, not your Benchmade 940. You'll have to decide whether to move the grinder with the front end towards you or away from you. You are interested in finding the best direction that will allow you to see clearly what you are doing, maintain the best angle throughout the length of the blade, and provide comfort. You need practice getting the angle right, sharpening evenly (especially with longer blades), and when to move the knife away from the surface to avoid grinding the tip. Lots of light helps. Some knife steels spark. Do not hold the blade still or press hard. For kitchen knives, set the blade flat (to maintain the low angle of the factory blade). If I find a grinding machine at a flea market, I buy a leather grinding wheel. If you own or are considering Worksharp, I would suggest this system instead. Learn faster, master faster and refine much faster. I love my worksharp, but the time it takes to switch straps with each step is very annoying. Changing out the belts isn't as easy as shown in the videos, it's difficult to sharpen short and versatile blades, and it's too easy to grind down the edge on the side of the blade where the belt goes from bottom to top. not super careful. Also, the instructions only work with large/kitchen knives. Hope this helps you decide.
