Seems to work just as well as the one originally provided by my ISP. Maybe even better. The original is equipped with varistors that can overheat and explode if struck by lightning. This one is equipped with spark gap tubes that are less likely to explode. Varistors have other advantages and spark lamps have other disadvantages, but I prefer spark tubes for this application. A few thunderstorms later it's still going strong, which I can't tell about the latest version of the varistor. But then the effects of lightning are pretty unpredictable, so it might just be a coincidence.
