The docking station was purchased to replace a burned out Synology NAS and due to a change in backup strategy. I mainly use it for the photography workflow. I have a late 2015 MBP called TB2 so I need to use the dock with an Apple TB2 to 3 adapter. I saw somewhere that you need to use an Apple adapter for the dock to work properly. So far this circuit has worked flawlessly. I use it as a 10TB RAID 1 device. The rear DisplayPort connector is handy for a legacy external monitor, although you'll need your own DP-to-DP cable as it's not included. The included TB3 cable is short (0.5m) so the docking station needs to be close enough to your computer and any other daisy-chained TB devices. I purchased TB3 2m OWC 40Gb/s cable to give me more flexibility in placing the dock around other desktop elements and to allow for future MBP upgrades to my own TB3 computer. The power cable from the Brick to the device is also relatively short, so the docking station must be placed as close as possible to the power source and the edge of the table. In operation, the docking station is fast and quiet. Since my MBP is originally 20GB/s TB2, I don't see the full 40GB/s capacity of TB3, but I bought knowing I would be upgrading to MBP TB3 next year. There is a significant delay when accessing Dock files on startup. & after sleep, but after the first access everything goes very quickly after that. It turns out to be a very good, albeit fairly expensive, drive. I'm hoping for good reliability of the box and hard drives, but I make regular backups just in case.
