Review on Xit XTLCDMV Professional Viewfinder Magnification by Zach Flores

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Inconvenient, bulky, with easily separable parts.

The installation process is a little cumbersome and makes the camera a bit bulky and clunky, but you can see the image on the screen in real time in daylight. Once installed, you commit to using it for both video and photography, since its presence prevents the use of the viewfinder at eye level. As useful as this outdoor daylight video viewer is, it takes up as much room in your bag as a medium-sized lens when not in use. The lower mounting bracket detaches from the viewfinder frame for storage. The mounting screw keeps falling out of the bracket when the viewfinder is not mounted - another thing to watch out for and a good reason to install/remove this viewfinder in a safe environment. Loosen this screw and without replacement the viewfinder is useless. I recommend painting the stop screw bright orange to make it easier to see where it falls. The solution to this problem would be to make the insertion hole at one end of the slot a 1/4-20 threaded hole instead of an oversized through hole. The most compact way to store the mount and nut is to tuck them into the viewfinder cone, but unless you wrap them in something soft and fluffy you run the risk of scratching the inside of the lens. The rubber eyecup should be a simple round shape, not crooked. Since this device does not appear to come with an instruction manual, you must adjust the diopter by unscrewing the lens barrel and using the closest value that allows you to attach the eccentric rubber eyecup to your preferred side. I can end up cutting the rubber eyecup into a more rounded shape. The elastic cord that secures the top edge of the viewfinder while holding the pentaprism body can make adjusting the top deck difficult or interfere with the pop-up flash.
