How else can you carry tons of songs, videos, photos, calendars, contact lists in a slim case? This is the iPod Classic. Connecting an IPOD to my Macbook Pro makes it easy to integrate my data. It automatically syncs with iCal and my address book and just enters all the important dates and contact information. iPhoto is also easy to sync with Macbook Pro. I could have chosen iTouch but I needed more space. Anyway, I'm waiting for the iPhone through my carrier. DESIGN Unlike the Nano, this is an HDD based MP3 player. It's also heavier than more compact MP3 players, making it impractical for people who walk. This is normal for me when using my elliptical trainer. The construction of this device is solid and the brushed steel is more durable than the hard plastics of previous generations. The plastic screen will still get scratched and I recommend using a screen protector (especially when watching videos). Why is glass after 6 generations? The back is chrome-plated and also prone to scratches. Controls are as simple as can be with a scroll wheel and power button on top. Charging is faster than previous generations and by keeping the brightness/backlight to a minimum you can match (or even exceed) the battery life advertised by the manufacturer. The video is good for a screen of this size, but sometimes it's not practical to watch a movie (although I watch movies with it on the go). Headphones are the same as previous generations. You can turn the volume up to maximum to protect yourself from ruptured eardrums. The menu system has evolved from 5.5G with a split screen. The ITUNES interface has stayed the same, but now there's Genius, which offers songs from similar genres from your own library. Syncing on Mac is easy and efficient. ITUNES You can program playlists via the iTunes interface. My favorite feature is "Smart Playlist" for adding songs or artists with specific keywords. I'm just starting out with podcasts, which are like radio shows that cover a wide range of topics. Vodcasts are the equivalent of video podcasts, and I've subscribed to shows like Golf Smarter, Golf Better, and Bionic Gloves Golf Podcasts to gain golf knowledge. SYNCHRONIZING WITH MACBOOK PRO My iPod is optimized for Mac OS. It's amazing how much faster it syncs compared to a Windows computer. I synced about 85GB in much less time than it takes for Windows XP. LISTENING TO MUSIC Playlists make it easy to play your favorite songs from the main menu. It's still inconvenient to jump to a specific song as there are layered menus by album or artist. You can search, but it will be difficult to use while driving. While listening, you can toggle between album art, volume, time remaining, or track rating. The equalizer has many configurations, but their usefulness is limited. to fly'. So you think you don't need 120GB? This applies not only to music, but also to podcasts, vodcasts, photos, portable hard drives and home videos. in the center of the scroll wheel to activate Genius. When Genius starts, it selects songs with similar "flavors". I've tried different genres including Country, Hip/Hop, R&B, Rock and even Hindi. I was amazed that he was able to choose 25 songs that are somehow connected. How this algorithm works is amazing. This is great for those who haven't created all possible playlists but want to create them on the fly. PHOTOS It's like carrying your own "photo ticket" when syncing with iPhoto on your Mac. The process runs without any problems via iTunes. Podcasts One of the main things I noticed between the 5.5 generation and the current classic 6G is that when you select a podcast, it will be played in the appropriate modality. I mean, if it's a video podcast, the video will play. If the podcast is audio, audio will play. With the previous generation, you had to select a video podcast in the Video section and then navigate to the podcast to play this modality. Otherwise only the audio version will be played. VIEWING VIDEOS The quality of the video is very good for its size, but seems impractical. I use an aircraft viewing stand. You can switch between remaining time and volume. Third party software is available to convert your home video, or you can purchase movies from iTunes. LINK. You can purchase peripherals to connect this to your stereo or car audio system. However, the video can only be played if you use a proprietary cable as this is a 6th generation IPOD with special firmware that does not allow the use of unlicensed third-party cables. Apple Composite AV Cable (MB129LL/B) I bought the following cable to connect this iPod to the aux input on my crossover network to watch video as it also allows you to charge your iPod: Griffin Composite Video Cable for iPod and iPhone I was looking for a case and found the Switcheasy Capsule Crystal case: SwitchEasy iPod Classic 120GB Capsule Crystal Case - UltraClear SUMMARY This is a robust, feature-rich MP3 player with cross-platform (Mac OS X and Windows) capabilities. If you're only discussing something because of the music (and everything else), you can't go wrong. If you have a Mac and need a high-capacity player, this is the obvious choice.
