I have tried several IP phones (desk phones, cordless phones, softphones). While they were feature rich and attractively priced, I found they lacked the sound quality/stability for serious use, especially when using hands-free. Employer used units have great audio quality but cost $300 and if you're a home user Cisco doesn't offer any software/firmware which was a deal killer for me. So I tried Polycom, whose name is well known. Fortunately, Polycom supports younger users better. This phone came with a web interface that allowed me to configure all the necessary settings and they let me download new firmware directly from their website. This phone does NOT come with a power adapter. This requires Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE). So I had to buy a $30 Revain Power Over Ethernet injector that plugs into my network cable and powers this phone. annoyed. But once I had everything set up, I was amazed at the sound quality. This phone has TOP sound quality. I couldn't believe that this phone could play such great sound with the same internet connection, same VOIP provider, same codec (G.729ab). And it has a high quality (full duplex) speakerphone. This phone is amazing. I wish I had bought it first and saved the money I wasted on all those cheap phones and softphones. I will be buying Polycom again in no time after great experience with this phone.
