Review on πŸ”— Cisco-Linksys WRT54GX4: Next-Generation Wireless-G Broadband Router with Enhanced SRX400 Technology by Andrew Lyons

Nothing special for routers

Linksys was the first router I bought (BEFSR41), it stopped working many years ago. I did some web research and bought D-Link (DI-624) for my next router, it still works and I think is faster than WRT54GX4 (or at least with my setup) and WPA security /WPA2 works with mine MacBook. Below is the reason I bought this router and the problem I had, it definitely didn't live up to my expectations. I bought it because I read that the WiFi part was supposed to have reduced or no dead zones. In addition, the SRX technology should increase the speed. Well, I'm using a MacBook with an airport card built in and the speed is about the same as before (if not a bit slower). I've read that for faster speeds you need to use a proper WiFi card with this router - I'm not sure if they make one that supports Macs. There are still dead zones, this router did not solve this problem, but the signal strength is slightly higher than my D-Link. Also, WPA/WPA2 security doesn't work properly with a MacBook, so I had to settle for using WEP, which is fine, I just wanted higher and stronger security. And from what I've read online on various forums, many others are having issues with the security features of this and similar routers (e.g. WRT54GX2).
