Do you know those wooden nutcrackers that people decorate their homes with at Christmas? If you've ever tried cracking a walnut with one of these then you have a good idea of what it's like to grind a pepper with this toy. I wanted to like it because it's so pretty, but each step of using it is more difficult than a "real" pepper mill. A small hole in the top allows you to load about ten peppers at a time, and even for that you'll need to use the little scoop that comes with the kit. As soon as you start chopping, the thin sliding lid opens and the peppercorns pop out. After a few turns, the nut at the top holding the whole mechanism together will loosen and you'll have to stop to retighten it, make a few more turns, then retighten and repeat. I've only used it once. a few times and already looking for a replacement.
