Review on πŸ“² OtterBox Defender Case Compatible Encased Car Mount for iPhone 6 Plus (5.5") by William Rothstein

He sees the eye and the tooth is numb.

The idea behind this bracket is fantastic. I've been using the iOttie mount for many months (barely fits) but lately my iPhone has been falling out quite a bit. I love the perfect and secure fit of this binding. But alas, this is where my love ends. The designers included a great cable management feature on the back of the mount to keep the USB cable in place when you remove your iPhone. Cute! HOWEVER, I couldn't believe my eyes when I discovered they did NOT put this feature on the WRONG end of the mount! The instructions even show the phone inserted upside down, which is clearly trying to convince you that you're crazy. The bracket has a narrow opening that allows you to access your iPhone's volume buttons. It's another design flaw, IMO, that the opening isn't unobstructed (READ: not very practical). Finally, I was very disappointed with the monster sucker. This thing is way bigger than the one on my iOttie and doesn't have the super sticky grip feature that iOttie has. The suction cup is so large that it would not fit in the "ideal" mounting location on the top/middle of my Ford Escape. Of course, the size will work for many people. But modern vehicles often have minimal flat surfaces suitable for these mounts, and windshield mounting is not safe, practical, and/or legal in many vehicles. I ended up taking apart both brackets and the mixed parts to get it working properly. This is a classic example of a really great idea poorly executed. I sincerely hope that this young accessory company will continue to innovate by increasing quality control and field testing.
