The holder doesn't hold my small Moto G pen. I can tighten the grip very tightly to hold the phone, but the clamps themselves aren't big enough to pierce the phone; it slides up and out of the side brackets. You need to use the black rubber band to hold the phone on the mount. I quickly ripped off the portion of the tether holding the bottom left corner of the phone. You get what you pay for and at around $10 it's very cheap. I'll probably spend $15 or $20 for one that works properly and lasts a long time.
