It's hard to tell how much the suction has improved. Our hose turned out to have a leak so replacing/upgrading the hose masked that aspect. They definitely got rid of a lot of dust and dirt from the vacuum tubes though. Best of all, one of these immediately took on a much more pleasant smell through each of the 6 air intakes in our two story house and in my workshop in the garage where the vacuum is located. That alone is worth it as we share our house with a fairly large dog who grooms professionally so on average we use the vacuum at least 5 days a week. I'm only taking off one star because of the price, which I thought was a bit high. On the other hand, you only need it 2-3 times a year if you vacuum often, as in our situation, and everything that is saturated with substances should be safe for pipes and fittings. It's not worth my time finding, buying, and stocking everything I need to "make" my own considering one container will probably last me a year.
