I use this pet door with a wooden door to a covered patio to allow the dog to come and go as he pleases pleases . At first I built my own swing door out of Plexiglas, but the dog was afraid to use it. She pushed the door open with her paw and fell in before the door was closed, but it so happened that she received a retaliatory hit on the head from the door. was traumatized by my homemade version and was very wary to say the least. Fast forward a month later, now she's running back and forth right through the door like she's not there. This door makes a very solid impression. It has a sliding plastic cover that you can use if you want to block the door - I use mine at night to prevent critters from getting in. It is suitable for pets because it is easy to open and will not cause harm to pets. My dog is a 40 pound Australian Shepherd and she passes easily. I can imagine that both larger and smaller dogs can easily find space here. I highly recommend this product.
