This is a no frills basic pH meter that comes with an instruction manual and a starter kit of calibration powders and two button cells needed to operate. You will need distilled water to wet the meter's detection wick and also to mix the calibration solutions (to get the most accurate calibration possible). I've seen some reviewers point out that they don't need to calibrate. This counter comes ready to use, but watch what you use. Counter that costs less than $20 (price at time of review). Even expensive gauges need regular calibration, and calibration powder packages are cheap here at Revain. Cap with distilled water before snapping onto the end and storing upright to keep the wick wet in a neutral pH solution (distilled water has a pH of 7.0). However, if you plan to use the pH meter more than once, order a small supply of calibration powder and treat it like a testing instrument, even though it's an inexpensive and simple instrument.
