I work in the theater field as a Sound Engineer/Audio Designer for elementary, high school and high school theater productions. I've worked with DPA mics, Countryman mics and that bunch. As a sound specialist, a few things are important to me: sound quality, durability and ease of use. I will take this into account. First off, these mics aren't DPA or Countryman in sound quality or durability. That being said, at $10-$13, these mics are the best value. Sound Quality: For $10-$13, they sound great. They're crisp, crunchy, and with a bit of EQ, they're fit for any theatrical need. Durability: OK, here we go. They cost $13. These aren't tanks, of course. You have to be careful with them, especially when you put them on someone's ears. The ear piece is quite stiff, so we have to be careful not to bend them too quickly and bend them back and forth. If you take good care of them, they will last a long time. I still have some that are still ok after 3-4 shows. A few tips that can help you: - Take the time to listen to people. Suppose your first microphone will take some time. This is done in order not to rush and not click on the microphone. Try to keep the microphone with one child so you don't have to switch it between children. (We had a company that did 4 gigs in two weeks and used the same mics for all 4 gigs. Constant shuffling back and forth resulted in about 10-15 mics failing. Not the best planning.) be the weak point where the cable hits the plug. There is no amplification, and when wearing vertical mic straps, the jack tends to rub and press against the user's back, causing failure. We usually use tape or something to reinforce that area. Ease of use: We use these mics with the Shure ULX Series and like other mics, they come out of the box. These mics are a lot hotter than the Countryman, though, so make sure you turn on the -20dB pad so you don't jam the transmitter. Overall I HIGHLY recommend these mics if you work for a small company or school. I mean, compatriots are always good and last longer, but at $300-400 you can buy 20-30 of these for the price of one!
