Review on Lowepro Trekker Backpack DSLR Black by Mike Ewing

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Large, flexible, comfortable, durable

I've been using this for semi-professional landscape photography which I've been doing for over 30 years. Only first impressions in this review as I didn't get a chance to take it on the road. First, it's very large and can hold a lot of gear. I installed it with three dlsr bodies, 70-210, 28-70, 16-35, 24 and fisheye lenses. All of this is stored in the main compartment along with extension cords and a light meter. There are many extra pockets for memory cards, filters, water bottle or hydration bladder, wallet, keys, phone and various accessories. I love how flexible it is so you can organize it according to your personal needs. I guess the only limit here is how much your legs can carry - the bag can get pretty heavy. This is how you stay in shape. Second, I like how comfortable it is. It doesn't have the adjustable back panel that my last one had, but I don't think I'll miss that. I loaded it fully and it sits fairly comfortably on my hips and fits snugly around my shoulders (I'm 6ft 2in). It doesn't take long to lift and secure. This is important as I keep putting it on, walking around a bit, taking pictures, taking a few shots, putting it back on, etc. Put it on your shoulders. Connect the straps together. Pull the belt up to your hips. Tighten the shoulder straps. . Tighten the strap around your neck. Ready. Nice and simple. Third, I like its modularity. It comes with a top "lid" which is actually a small pocket. It is easy to remove and can be used as a simple carry. for quick trips. There is also an accessory pocket that fits under the top cover. You can store some things in it. It can also be attached to the back of the backpack or placed in the main compartment. You have the choice. Besides, the waist belt is detachable and you can press the shoulder pads firmly to the bag body, now it turns into a regular camera bag. I, by the way, suitable for hand luggage. In addition, there is a hidden pocket on the back of the backpack that you can pull out. This cover is designed for tripod legs that can be strapped to the back of the backpack. Finally, a rain cover is built into the bottom that can be pulled out to cover the backpack. Durability: My previous bag was the LowePro 350 AWII. I beat him very well! Still very functional after 20 years. Lots of good memories with the old bag, but it's time for a new bag. He had such stretchy wire harnesses - like on a white water raft. The clasp on one of them broke. They can easily get caught on branches. They aren't in the new packaging, which is good. My old bag's shoulder strap actually came loose where it was sewn to the bag itself. I had to reattach it with nylon thread. I hope that doesn't happen with this bag. Looking at the seams, I don't see a heavy seam here. The time will show. Otherwise the old bag works perfectly. I can't believe the zipper still works - I must have opened and closed this thing thousands of times. Overall, the quality and durability of the bag should be very good to excellent. And that's important, because like most landscape photographers, we overuse our gear. Hope to continue this review after driving a few miles under this thing. In short, if you're thinking about buying this set, I wouldn't hesitate. It stinks a lot!
