Good quality comfortable shoes with horrible laces

I have bought many of these shoes for my 7 year old son. By "this type of shoes" I mean lightweight, lace-up slip-on shoes, athletic shoes. My son is quite picky when it comes to shoes and unfortunately most of these shoes which are his favorite start falling apart pretty quickly, starting at the top. We've only had these shoes for a few months but I can already see a HUGE difference in how well they're holding up compared to Nike and even the last similar pair of Adidas shoes we bought for him. He likes them and they still look brand new which is really saying something! My only complaint about these shoes is, that it is almost impossible to tie the laces tightly and keep them tied. unless you double or even triple knot them. They're just too smooth! This is especially difficult for a child who is just learning to tie his shoelaces (our son has autism and ADHD). Even I'm having a hard time getting them to stay tied long enough for me to tie a double knot on the first try! They may look cool, but NO children's shoes should have laces like this. They are just awful to get and stay tied up. That being said, we love the shoes themselves and the fact that they don't have crazy colors and can be paired with anything. Yes, they're expensive, but if they're comfortable and durable, they're worth it! So far, so good. Oh, one more note: I hate children's shoe sizes. I never know if I'm dealing with a little kid or a big kid. It's so confusing! If it helps we bought a size 1. 5 for a small child for our 7.5 year old and they suit the growth well.
