Review on Enhance Internet Speed with TP-Link AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter (Archer T4U V1) by Chef Buntiloy

Revainrating 1 out of 5

This adapter could not be connected to one of my wireless routers.

I was very happy that it worked with my new wireless router. My other TP-LINK Mini 450 was only connected at 5GHz, I didn't realize it wasn't dual band. So I thought this TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 would solve the problem, but I was wrong. The product did not work at all on the two machines I tried it on. PROS: I can return it for a refund. TP-LINK support actually answers the phone. CONS: 1) It didn't work with my 64-bit Vista OS, in fact, the driver installation messed up the TP Link drivers for my Mini 450 adapter. After installing the drivers, Windows Vista saw my 2 wireless networks, 4 and 5 GHz, but it couldn't connect and the WPA2 secure wireless setup couldn't be used. I've tried both broadcasting and not broadcasting the SSID with the same results, no connection. So I installed and tried the included TP-LINK setup utility but it couldn't detect the Archer T4U AC1200 wireless adapter so I couldn't use it to set up anything with that utility, it also kept crashing because it tried to access it for memory. outside of its address space, and Windows Vista would disable it. 2) Then I tried to get it working with my Windows XP 32bit machine, exactly the same problems, it could see the 2.4GHz network but couldn't connect to it. I'm not sure if this was a Windows XP issue or not, but I couldn't even see the 5GHz network on the XP machine, but I think even if I could, it wouldn't connect either . In a conversation with the technical support it was said that the device might be defective. They said it's not technically certified for Vista, but it should have worked. At the same time it is certified for XP 32bit and didn't work there either. So I am sending it back and hopefully get my money back as it is defective. I've also tried this with 2 different Linksys WiFi routers as well as a TP-LINK Archer C9, couldn't connect to either, so it wasn't a manufacturer related issue. Personally, I'd stay away from this Wi-Fi adapter, but if you're just looking for a single-band adapter, the TP-Link Nano 150 2.4GHz and 450 5GHz adapters will work terrific. They are faster when connected to my Linksys WRT1900ACS router compared to their Archer C9 Wi-Fi router. At the same time it is certified for XP 32bit and didn't work there either. Pros
  • Connects to a PC via USB 3.0 for 10x the speed of USB 2.0
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
