If you follow the instructions provided, you'll turn it on its head, so don't let that put you off. As with most furniture, do not fully tighten the screws until you have everything together so you can make sure everything fits together properly and evenly before tightening. It will also help solve the jiggling issues some people seem to have. The holes are pre-drilled and the screws have a little play before tightening, so you can make small adjustments before tightening to get everything together properly. Overall I find this stool incredibly well made and easier to put together than Ikea furniture. I didn't do much research beforehand, just picked the cheapest wooden model, but I feel I made a good choice.
