Review on ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ GermGuardian AP5800W: Superior 19" Hi-Performance Air Purifier with HEPA Filter & Air Quality Sensor in White by Dino Burks

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good air purifier but expensive replacement filter.

This air purifier has the standard features you would expect for its size and price. It is equipped with an air quality sensor with an indicator display and an automatic mode that automatically adjusts the fan speed according to the air quality. It features digital touch controls, fan speed control, auto mode, sleep mode, timer, child lock and filter change indicator. It uses a filter cartridge with 3 filter stages (pre-filter, activated carbon filter and HEPA filter). According to the instructions, the pre-filter should be vacuumed monthly to remove coarse dust/dirt and prolong the life of the filter. The filters are said to last 6 to 8 months and at the time of writing this review the MSRP for replacement filters is $99 and the retail price is $72. Remove the logo/brand from the front or place it somewhere else (bottom/back). The multicolored GermGuardian logo ruins a very nice aesthetic. Overall, this is one of the best air purifiers out there. It has a nice design (aside from the logo), small size and is silent. At the same time, the cost of a replacement filter ($99) is double (in some cases triple) the cost of similar filters on competing products. For example, I have another, larger air purifier (up to 1,000 square feet) that was about the same price, had all the same features, and used a similar three-stage HEPA filter, but it's only $39 to replace. Therefore, in my opinion, the operating costs are too high compared to similar products.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
