This is a large plastic French Press - simple and not fancy as it should be. I had no problem removing the butt cap or lifting the butt. Just twist and pull up. The butt cap is in two parts (excluding the plunger mechanism) that sometimes come loose and need to be reattached. Hopefully this won't be a big problem although it was inexpensive enough in case I need to replace it. I would like the carafe to be a single piece of plastic or the clear part to be removable for washing. I had a few coffee beans that got stuck like the other reviews but they worked out. My cold brew recipe is 48 ounces of water and 6 ounces of coarse coffee brewed at room temperature for 18-20 hours. This will fill the carafe up to the top edge of the clear part. The flat lid has an airtight seal that prevents water from spilling when you put it on. Then I pour it through a paper filter and about 32 ounces of coffee comes out. While the French press filter is fine mesh and has a gasket around it, some sludge is left behind in the paper filter. Pour over ice and enjoy!
