I have never swallowed an oyster in my 60 years. I planned to put them on the grill so they had some exposure to the heat. My partner wanted them raw, although I mostly grilled them. Anyway, after figuring out how to take it off (first from the hinge side, at a 45° angle: see YouTube), I was able to figure out how to open the extremely tight shell. As a beginner, each oyster took about a minute. The blade and accompanying gloves (which partially protect against direct impacts) give me the confidence to buy more oysters. In terms of taste, I prefer them cooked, but I can pre-open them before grilling. After using it once, I can recommend this product.
