Gas Cap Parts List American Standard Champion 4

I purchased an American Standard Champion 4 toilet to replace a 1981 toilet in a 4 bathroom home. I was disappointed that after 2 years it had a reservoir leak, none of my old toilets leak. A small basin made it possible to delay repairs by 4 years. This is tedious work, so I recommend you buy all the usual "maintenance" items. Before you begin, turn off the water in the bowl and rinse it out. Note the low water level in the tank and wait an hour. If the valve in the toilet wall is leaking, it should be replaced. Shut off the water to the entire hose and repeat the test. It's still leaking, call a plumber. No leaks? This is dirty work. Circumferential toilet with old towels. There are also many buckets. One pre-filled with water. Take the tank and the stone, tighten the toilet screws to the bottom if necessary. Wet suction water is still in the tank or bucket and is dried with a towel. You need deep wall sockets to remove the tank screws. Tank screws are very long. Loosen and tighten these bolts evenly to avoid cracking the tank. remove the cable. I bought a new flush valve that comes with the giant wrench you need. Take a photo or two. It's time to replace the top cap on the main liquid fill valve. All the seals on my tank were punctured, including the ones that didn't flow (yet). Wipe the sealing surface on the pan and bowl clean. The tank-to-cup gasket in this kit was thicker and a different material than stock. It was molded under a giant tank nut. Common seals are round on the inside. The screw seal on my tank was leaking - see corrosion. When tightening the tank bolts, use a screwdriver at the top to prevent the bolt from turning. As the screw turns in the gasket, it cuts a groove in the rubber and leaks. Tighten each nut a few turns so they are evenly tightened. Take the tank and pump, tighten and repeat until the tank is tight. I held up a piece of paper to check that the tank was touching the bowl evenly on both sides. Don't overtighten. Attach the grip chain and new umbilical and fill the tank with a bucket of water. No leaks? Flush and adjust chain as needed. Turn on the wall tap. No leaks? Swap towels for dry newspaper so you can easily tell if the toilet is starting to leak. Check for leaks after 24 hours. Suggested Parts This kit, flush valve, inflation valve bonnet, wall check valve if required, new umbilical hose. Consumables Rubber gloves, paper towels, bucket, deep set, chain pliers, flathead screwdriver (large), marker pen.
