NCQ does not work on Linux

February 2016 Hotfix: On another computer (HP dl360p g6) and with another SATA controller, this drive works without errors (no NCQ). In my previous review, the SATA controller and hard drive combo didn't work. The Seagate drive worked fine with this controller, so I'm upgrading this drive to four stars. ############# ##################################### ################################################# # ################# or NCQ must be disabled, otherwise this drive will cause many errors. The SATA connection resets every time such errors occur and to the user the drive appears to be slow and unresponsive. Tested on the last two releases of Debian (as of April 2014). Even after disabling NCQ it's not as fast as it should be. Copying large files takes time, definitely longer than WD's old 3.5-inch SATA2 drives. Note that these errors only appear under heavier loads (or larger files?), especially when a directory is being synced from another computer. About 500 KB of data.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Not bad
