After reading the reviews I was concerned that this bag would be difficult to close but I saw that it could be returned for free so I decided to give it a try. I'm VERY HAPPY I did! This is a HUGE canvas bag, but it only took me about 15 seconds to pull it nice and tight. Due to the thickness (read: quality) of the canvas material, there will still be a slight gap at the top, but this can be remedied by tying the tie rods together once tightened. I also had no problem opening the bag fully again. Thick canvas lies flat. If your kids ride the side of the map I would recommend opening it over a mat to keep the bag from shifting and forming "mounds" as another reviewer mentioned. I have boys aged 3 and 1 and both can easily drive cars on the surface of the map by laying them on the carpet.
