This inexpensive fountain works well in our birdbath - I am not sure the birds enjoy it but I think they do - it seems to attrract more of htem to the birdbath for spashing and drinking. The fountain functions when sufficient light is on the collectors - and it does not have to be direct sunlight. When in muted light it will operate in short spurts but even the spurts serve to attract attention and aerate the water. To mount the outriggers i found I had to make a short cut in the foam float -the diagram didn't spell that out explicitly. Works as stated - only been in use for about a week so can't speak to lifespan but for the price I'm satisfied so far. I did have to experiment with nozzles to find one that did not shoot water so high it was blowing out of the basin in moderate winds and I am adding water to the the bath more often due to increased evaporation in our 90 to 95 degree weather due the spray.
