Mascara is truly a unique formula that is best removed with this patented remover. At first I tried baby oil and lip balm and even just soap, water and a powder puff - and my lips hurt badly from all the extra abrasions that came with it. Before the mascara, I used Max Factor Clear Gloss Lip Liquid all day. , baby oil or lip balm did an excellent job of dissolving the color at the end of the day. However, lip ink has little to no reaction to solvents in baby oil or lipstick. Which is actually GOOD for me, because now if I want that extra lip balm that only lip balm can give me in the middle of a dry winter, I can apply it and still expect my mascara to last all day. .So I ran for the additional cost of the OFF lip ink remover and used it as needed. I honestly don't need it every day - if I leave my lipstick on day and night, it washes off pretty well the next morning in the shower with soap and buff. If Off comes in handy, if I apply mascara in such a way that I want to take it all off and start over - then I use Lip Ink Off - it gently removes the color and I can start over and get it right.
