Fairly strong construction; quite strong even for centering (haven't tried it on a lot of clay but it's ok for the 2-3lb amount I use for casting up to 8" etc). Calm! Came with a broken wire on the reverse switch, but easily repaired enough that the speed control lever hits the reverse switch - this spacing issue was "solved" by removing the reverse switch knob - this is normal for me, since I usually only drive in one direction. The tub around the wheel does NOT have split areas in the corners as some others seem to have listed the relevant photos - I prefer this undivided tub. Quite low - becomes a comfortable height for sitting on a stool when its legs are placed on two 8' x 8' x 16' concrete wall blocks.
