Very good - the charcoal seems to work to minimize the unbearable odor (caused by pet hair/dandruff) when turning the vacuum on and running. Too bad I didn't know about this before throwing away/replacing the previous working ones and not the old ones just because of the horrible smell. Another lesson learned: stay away from bagless vacuums because you can't (obviously) use carbon-soaked dust bags to contain odors.
