Used with an old AT-101w Dell PS/2 keyboard. I plugged the keyboard into the adapter, then into a USB port on a powered off laptop, then turned on the laptop and the keyboard worked right away (I use this procedure to have Windows 10 look for a driver for new USB devices on startup , This seems like the easiest way, and in recent years Win 10 has gotten a bit better in this regard). The adapter is a bit bulky so this adapter might take up extra desk space or not be convenient to carry, but that's not a problem for me since the laptop I use it on is almost always docked to the desk and the AT-101W keyboard is massive I wouldn't carry it with me anyway.
