Living in apartment, huge windows (yet only able to open them on one small corner, ironic), and there are only white horizontal blinds that left a gap on the edges of the window (as well as let in light in the holes where the strings are). The excessive light exacerbated by living on the first floor what with white sidewalks reflecting in light and the metal on cars too was driving me nuts. At night, there were streetlights to contend with as well as the light outside the main door of my building (bedroom is really close to it)-- and of course, car/police/etc. lights. These work amazing. I am quite certain if I had regular curtain rods above the window and not a tension rod in the window that the light would be blocked out completely, since currently there's a bit of light leaking in from above the curtains/rod. Drilling into the drywall is not a good option for me though, so it's whatever. Yes there are wrinkles but I could care less about aesthetics when I can finally eliminate a source of sensory overload.
