This ink is accepted by my MFC-J470DW printer and print levels are displayed correctly. Plus, the print quality is just as good as genuine Brother cartridges. The only downside is that they leak a lot more ink than the originals when you put them in the printer. Unlike Brother cartridges, they have an adhesive strip on the side that opens the vent. Tilting the cartridge too far will spill a lot of ink and dirty your hands or, worse, the floor/carpet. And in some cases, the ink will come out first even if you don't tilt the cartridge. So if you don't want to have ink on your hands I would suggest wearing latex gloves when loading the cartridge and I would also suggest newspaper or something to protect your floor. Once in the printer I don't see the problem. I would rate them lower based on the leak but they are so good I will leave five stars. Edited to add it now that I think about it. , I am in the mountains at very high altitude. The ink bleed I experienced could be due to the lower air pressure at this altitude. However, ink can still leak if you mishandle the cartridge when removing the tape from the side, which some others have reported as well. So I still advise you to be careful not to spill any ink. August 15, 2014 Edited again to add that I got about 1,000 pages with this black cartridge compared to about 700 pages with the "Starter" Brother cartridge that came with the printer. Brother rates their high capacity toner cartridge at 600 pages, so 1000 pages represents even better value! And I had a bit more ink bleed when I installed the replacement but it was only a few drips on my fingers and most of it washed out as I expected and saw quickly. So my 5 stars are still there. Now that I know what to expect, I can live with a leak during installation. The price per page is beyond fiction. Print quality is just as good as Brother cartridges, but Brother printers tend to print lighter text and brighter colors with less contrast than some other brands, even at the best quality, regardless of which cartridge you use. On the plus side, Brother printers use far less ink than other brand printers during normal maintenance cycles, which take place automatically even when you're not printing (according to Consumer Reports).
